@CentralHall Welcome! Events industry margins are usually very healthy so it's heartening to see a London venue paying staff fairly.

Central Hall Westminster provides backdrop for thrilling FIFA Interactive World Cup Final

Central Hall Westminster was the setting for a thrilling England victory in the FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC17), the world’s largest football gaming event, which took place from 16th to 18th August.

It was England V Germany when British gamer, Spencer Ealing, better known as Gorilla, beat German player Kai Wollin, otherwise known as DETO, in the Final Showdown Day held for the first time at Central Hall on Friday 18th August.

The nail-biting culmination of a year-long gaming event involving over seven million participants took place on the main stage at the central London venue’s Great Hall in front of a live audience of 1,000 and via live streaming all over the world. The final heats were held in Central Hall’s Lecture Hall and Library over two days before Friday’s Final Showdown in the Great Hall

Spencer was one of just 32 people from around the world who made it to the ‘Road to London 2017’ final, winning the top prize of $200,00 (USD) along with a trip to The Best™ FIFA Football Awards.  This was only the second time that a British gamer has won the FIWC17 since its inception in 2004. The last time the UK took the title was 12 years ago. Runner-up in the three-day event, German player, Kai Wollin (DETO), took the $40,000 prize.

Attendees watching the action taking place on gaming consoles included corporate guests, influencers and media, whilst members of the public were admitted on Friday for Final Showdown Day.

Paul Southern, Managing Director of Central Hall, comments: “Central Hall, with its cutting-edge technical capabilities and latest AV equipment, provided the ideal backdrop for the final of the world’s largest football gaming event.  We were delighted and privileged to play a part in this world-famous event and very proud that we were able to live-stream it all over the world.”
