About Change Please
Change Please was launched in 2015 with the help of Virgin StartUp, and a partnership with The Big Issue.
The social enterprise empowers the homeless community to rebuild their lives with its, ‘hand up, not a hand out’ model – training them to become coffee baristas and eventually supporting them back into the workplace in similar roles.
In addition to providing barista training, Change Please supports its trainees with accommodation and mental wellbeing and pays the Living Wage.
Its coffee is award winning, receiving Good Taste Awards in 2017 and 2018 and the Coffee Food Quality Award in 2018. Richard Branson named it his “Start up of 2018.”
Change Please has grown rapidly in the last three years, and now has 32 retail and partner sites across London, Manchester, and the Virgin Trains UK rail network. It is in the process of expanding further across the UK and is in discussions with bodies in New York, regarding bringing the programme across the Atlantic. Change Please also has its own range of award-winning coffee stocked at Sainsbury’s, which will be available to buy from further retailers in the near future.
You will be able to support Change Please and enjoy a cup of coffee in our very own Wesley’s Cafe located on the lower ground floor of CHW!
